I am one of those believers who is convinced that when the body and mind work alongside each other it makes life easier and provides the brain with a challenge.
When retired the days can sometimes just drag along, and boredom can set in. If you like reading, knitting, sewing, painting, gardening, doing some carpentry etc, these can help to pass away the hours when not out about or visiting someone. I am not a television person, never have been, so I have to keep myself busy with some kind of activity.
When something interesting catches my attention, my thoughts are, have a go, what have you got to lose. This does not include jumping out of an airplane strapped to a skydiver who is a handsome, athletic built young male either (hmmm I might reconsider that).
Let me come down to earth, my idea of grasping something new is an online course or listening to an informative YouTube video because there are some very good ones. I have studied CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), and a bit of NLP (neuro linguistic programming), which were interesting. If I’d been just a tad younger at the time of discovering these topics, I might have decided to take up mentoring as a career, because I am a natural people helper. But, I found this a bit late in the day and it takes quite a few years to become qualified. However, I did learn something new and that is pleasing.
My latest challenge is learning to read the tarot cards, yes I know. I won’t be sitting in a dark room with large hoop earrings dangling on the edge of my ears or a turban type head scarf wrapped around my locks, wearing a dramatic expression on my face, I’m not the drama queen type! I just sit at my table, shuffle the cards and hope one day I will produce a positive reading. I’ve only had them a week, and it is interesting learning about the different symbols and what they represent. This is purely for my own entertainment and would never consider trying the tarot cards out on my family or friends for fear of being looked upon as someone who has lost their marbles.
In the meantime I’m pondering what course to delve into, something will come to mind or pop up out of the blue and I will zoom in on it like a bee to a honey pot, and get stuck in!
There are many free courses on Udemy which is where I sometimes browse and I like the videos to learn from rather than loads of text. There are other platforms offering free courses such as Alison, and here is a link to another platform where there are loads of free courses to look into.
Right now I am off to my tarot cards, to have a shuffle and see what life has in store for me, other than the usual daily stuff. I wonder if there will be a card that jumps out of my shuffle with the image of a skydiver that is young, handsome and built like an athlete…
