I think I have mentioned in a previous post that shoes are my ‘thing.’ I have always loved shoes even from a young child. My mother told me that she used to whisper to the shop assistant not to produce any red shoes when I was being fitted for school footwear, because I would have a hissy fit if I could not leave the shop without red shoes on my feet or in a box which I would carry myself with love!
In my teens I loved Mary Quant shoes and was the proud owner of a pair. In my later teens I could run around in stilettos and think nothing of it! Then the wedge shoes and platforms came in and somehow I managed to balance on the platforms, ladylike and walk quite elegantly in them – well I think I did!
Now in my seventies I am well into comfy trainers, anything that is not higher than kitten heels and my feet are happy!
I still browse fashion shoes when passing by and I mentally pick out the ones I would choose if I was eighteen again. Then I look down at my pink and black trainers and think, I can walk for miles in these without causing blisters or pain, and I had many blisters in younger days!
I have wide feet and in my time of teenage years in the 60’s and 70’s there were very few wide fitting fashion shoes that would fit with my budget. I would literally torture my poor feet and fit them into shoes that were not wide enough until I broke them in! What a girl will do for fashion! Fortunately, these days there are shoes, trainers etc with wide fittings for most budgets.
Of course looking after your feet especially if diabetic is important. A good Epsom soak in salt water will do wonders for the tooties! Cherish your feet, after all they have walked us around the world and back through life, so a bit of TLC is well deserved.
I have a contract with my feet, I wear comfortable shoes, and in return they will not cause me pain, blisters, or discomfort, it is all signed and sealed and kept in a pretty shoe box which once housed a pair of red stilettos!
